Cleaning Up IPL
by Rahul Das on Apr.28, 2010, under Uncategorized
Chirayu Amin, the interim IPL chairman has promised to clean-up the IPL mess. He accepted that the BCCI and the council members were ‘dazzled’ by the IPL success and overlooked issues which they shouldn’t have. While speaking to NDTV he said, “The success of the IPL was so dazzling that we were all basking in its glory. I must say as a council member that we did overlook things … certain details were not disclosed to us and we did trust Lalit Modi to run things better. I must admit the governing council could have been more vigilant.”
He avoided any direct comments on Modi and said that nobody is being treated unfairly. He said they are waiting for Modi’s reply.
“We will try to make it a system-oriented management of the IPL. The government is looking into various issues and the BCCI and the IPL are supporting them. We will maintain full transparency. There is no hanky-panky. The BCCI is a democratic set-up. We are doing our utmost to make it work.” Amin said while assuring the IPL franchises and fans.
He also said that a new bidding process is being worked upon to prevent any future controversy.

Rashid Latif said the ICC had acted in haste, especially since the security situation in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh was also uncertain.
Pakistan has become a no-go zone for international sporting events after seven Pakistanis were killed and six Sri Lanka cricket players were injured during an armed attack on their team bus as they travelled to a test match in Lahore last month.

by Rahul Das on Feb.23, 2009, under General, Latest News
The talks on ICL failed again. The ICC, ICL and BCCI had a three hour meeting in Johannesburg. Now again their application will come under discussion by the ICC executive board in April.
David Morgan, the ICC president, described the failure of the discussions as unfortunate but said that the meeting was held in a friendly manner. “I am grateful to all parties for coming together with the best of intentions and the discussions took place in a friendly and cordial manner but, unfortunately, we were not able to come to a successful conclusion in our discussions,” said Morgan.
ICC has always discussed this but has always said that BCCI should resolve this internally. The ICL has said that if its application is rejected it will take legal route. Over 150 cricketers who joined ICL remains banned from international cricket. The ICL’s hopes for a legal resolution received a boost recently with the Sindh High Court in Pakistan ruling that Pakistani cricketers associated with ICL be allowed to play domestic cricket in that country.
Apart from Morgan, today’s meeting was attended by Haroon Lorgat, the ICC chief executive, N Srinivasan, the BCCI secretary, Subhash Chandra, the ICL owner, and Himanshu Mody, the private league’s business head
